Why do beach villages always feel so far away from anywhere else? Is it just left over torment from being an excited kid - are we there yet? Are we there yet? Or is it that a beach village is a place for great holidays and the next holiday is always too long to wait for! Even parts of sandy coastal cities can feel a long way from a sandy paradise!
For the best deals you need to consider the resorts of Spain's Balearic Islands. Cyprus or Sardinia among others. But the best way to find a deal is to travel at the beginning or the end of the season, which will also mean the village will be less crowded. The smaller beach villages, like the ones on the Greek Islands are often good places to look for a beach deal as well: these islands are littered with villages of all different kinds. You could also look in more exotic locations, of the African coasts, or in Scotland, Wales, or Norway, where less people are expecting for find a great beach village. Other deals come up at the last minute, so if your only prerequisite on your holiday is that it's a beach holiday, waiting till late may land you a fantastic beach deal.
Beaches are all about escape and these holidays revolve around them and the beach villages that line them - other than the hotel, the most important part of many holidays is the beach village and the beach that lines it. So it's important to get the village right.
So be clear - and do your research. What kind of atmosphere do you like? Party? Family? The beach villages of Ibiza and Brazil are known for their parties, whilst Costa Rico and the remote tropical islands of Samoa and French Polynesia are quiet, as are the exclusive coast village resorts on private islands in the Bahamas and Seychelles, and there are villages for families in every country, but there are lots of calm beaches off the European coasts so they're good places to start on.
Then it's time to consider the quality of the beach the village sits alongside. Some of Europe's best beaches are along Turkey's Agean Coast, the Costa Verde, and around St Tropez. The Cote d'Azure, Croatia's Dalmatian Coast and the Greek Islands are other European beach holiday classics. Some of the best white sand and warm, turquoise waters are Whitehaven Beach, in the Great Barrier Reef's Whitsunday Group, Aitutaki in the Cook Islands and White Bay Beach in the British Virgin Islands. Other famous best locations are White Beach in the Philippines, Matira Beach in French Polynesia and Anse de Grande Saline Beach on Martinique. Or for a more rugged flavour, Vestvagoy in Norway and the Welsh Coast are exciting places for a beach holiday.
