"Beijing's enormous new £1.8bn airport terminal has its official opening today, reports Lindsey Hilsum.
Its British design team was only invited at the last minute, as the authorities sought to make this a celebration of a very Chinese achievement.
The Beijing opening is likely to herald a massive new programme of airport construction across the country."

Go and visit china instead of listening to news only. I visited china last year, and went to interior cities such as wuhan, chongqing, zhengzhou, etc. The infrastructure is also very good there. China’s government is trying to build infrastructure to keep up with economic growth. The roads of beijing, shanghai are EXTREMELY jammed. The airport at beijing (b4 t3 open) was extremely crowded, trust me.

Believe it or not, it is currently the 9th busiest airport in the world even without the new terminal 3. Get over yourself, chinese government is already investing hugely in infrastructure, technology, health care and education.

Well, considering the fact that this terminal will reach it’s full capacity in about 10 years time, why don’t you tell me the rationale behind the “huge” investment?
I have no idea where you live, but remember you are talking about a city with double-digit air traffic growth each year. Believe it or not, Beijing will be building a 2nd international airport in 2 years time.

Typical ignorant response. Everything in China is built to massive scales because it has to cater for a nation of over 1.3 billion people who all take up resources. The level of growth China experiences demands that massive infrastructure projects like this airport, the 3 Gorges Dam, the railway ‘over the world’ to link Tibet with China, and the north-south canals to give Beijing water supplies, are huge.

what a shameful project,waste of money, beijing threw billions of RMB to built these kida projects just to impress the foreigners, that’s the supidest thing ever. it’s like north korea, they make Pyongyang so clean and so perfect while the rest of the country is a mess. Chinese government should put more money to built high quality infrastructure for the whole country,invest more captial on education and technology developement,a huge airport terminal shows aboslutely nothing but ignortant.
