A few years ago, my partner and I decided that we would book a week off work in order to get a last minute cheap holiday. We originally planned to go somewhere in the UK, such as a Caravan Park near a seaside or Centre Parks. We then, just out of curiosity, checked online for a late deal abroad.
We were suprised to find some grat deals to places such as Turkey and Faliraki for a little over £100, so this immediately took our interest. After doing some research into the locations we decided to go to Faliraki, paying £108 self catering for 7 nights. As you can imagine, our expectations of the hotel/apartments were not high, afterall it is only somewhere to sleep.
So we booked the holiday the day before we were due to fly out, the only problem was, that we did not have a lift to the airport. Luckily, a friend who owns a limo hire company said that hthey had a job in the Newcastle area, and said they could drop us off.
We landed in Rhodes airport, and it was boiling. We travelled on the coach for around 2hours while the other holiday makers got dropped off at their apartments. We then arrived at our appartments, where they had a pool, and a bar. We were then shown to our room, where as expected, there was nothing much to it. The shower just say worked, but the beds were comfortable and we had a good view across the plain from the balcony.
The best thing I liked about Faliraki was the food. We went to a restaurnt along the main stretch where we were greeted by a tall, Steven Segal looking rep, promising us the best mixed grill in town. We went in and in no time at all this mountainous supply of meat was presented to us. Filled full of ribs, steak and pork, it was truely amazing. The price was just as good.
The only thing I didnt like about hte holiday/area is the Reps who take you on a bar crawl promising you free drinks. Each bar they took us to was expensive and we ended blowing most of our budget having 5 more days to spend.
On the penultimate day, we decided that we could afford to go on a boat trip to Lindos. Lindos was a nice Greek town where you can buy many souvenirs. There are quite a few steep banks to tackle, but the locals are waiting with their donkies to give you a taxi ride to the top. On the way back from Lindos, the boat stopped near another bay, where we were all able to jump off the boat into the sea. This was a tremendous and memorable day.
Overall, for the price we paid, and the experiences we had especially getting free Newcastle Limo Hire, I would definitely go back, even if it was just for another one of those mixed grills from the Giant Greek Local.
