    source from …
source from wikipedia:Nigerian Pidgin, along with the various pidgin and creole languages of West Africa, displays a remarkable similarity to the various dialects of English found in the Caribbean. Linguists hypothesize that this stems from the fact that the majority of slaves taken to the New World were of West African origin, and many words and phrases in Nigerian Pidgin can be found in Jamaican Creole (Patois) and the other creole languages of the West Indies.

Wow, times really do change from the past. The demographic in Jamaica is so very mixed and diverse now. Blacks, a large number of Chinese, Indians, etc., a huge number of mixed people, so very diverse. That’s why the national motto is “Out of Many, One People.” ;-)

Yoruba slaves are mostly found in all South America and North America. Haiti have mostly yorubas from Benin Republic (Dahomey) Jamaicans are mostly Ghananian slaves hence they still bear some Ghanian names e.g Badu et.c. Barbados have Yorubas and Gambians they too have common yoruba names like Obadele et.c. Congo are predominantly in Bolivia and Ecuador. Bolivian African King is called King Congo. This does not signify that they are no other tribes of Africa in all those places

In Jamaica the people originating from the east of the island would be more Ghanaian ancestry. My cousin traced her roots back to Ghana. Igbo yoruba would be more on the west of Jamaica. So I do not agree that most Jamaicans are Igbo. Cuba I know has more Yoruba. Jamaica has a big blend of Africans from all over because the british took the slaves to Jamaica then transported some to other islands and the U.S..

    Pickanniny was used …
Pickanniny was used in the states. It originates from the Portuguese word called pequenino. Now used by Nigerians as “pikin” The portugese enslaved africans from the current day nigeria before the British came along. Like I said pidgin is a combation of the colonizers language, english, igbo, yoruba, etc. Same with the AA ebonics and afro carribean patois.

The majority of african carribeans are igbo people from current day Nigerian. hence why there are igbo languages in the patois. every afro carribean should search “Igbo people, Culture and History” on youtube. it explains the history of afro carribeans

    Not true infact …
Not true infact impossible. The slaves from different ethnic group took their language, mixed with english, etc which developed patois. Jamaicans say “unu” meaning “you guys” “unu” originates from the igbo people from west africa which I am. Also pidgeon english depending where you are is a mixture of english and thenic languages. Nigeria’s pidgeon is a mix of the igbo language, yoruba “wahala”,etc, and english. The slaves were not fluent in african language meaning it was IMPOSSIBLE to invent it
