TEHRAN (AFP) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday proposed holding a public debate with his US counterpart George W. Bush at the United Nations this month and a "global referendum" to decide who was right.
Ahmadinejad confirmed in an interview with Iranian television he would be visiting Iran's arch enemy the United States for the third time to take part in the General Assembly next week.
"I proposed it last year. I will go to New York. Let's sit down and talk. But not behind closed doors.
"I propose discussing international questions at the UN General Assembly in order to solve them," he added.
"Our aim is to solve global problems," he continued. "He (Bush) gives his position and I give mine. The representatives of 200 countries meet there and they can judge," he said.
Ahmadinejad offered Bush a public debate before he travelled to the United Nations last year, a proposal that was spurned by the White House
Lets get this straight
Can't debate a terrorist Nope that would be wrong give the man credibility and so forth
But he can come to the US of A and meet with 200 heads of State ?
Yep that is ok this man the horrible terrorist is allowed to visit and take part in an international meeting
But Bush is just going to duck around corners and not engadge someone who apparently is good enough to let in and has enough credibility according to the US to take part in this meeting
But he does't have enough to debate George ?
Why the contridiction ?
G-Man
I'd either claim he was a terrorist and not let him in
Or I'd recognize him as a world leader I disagreed with and trounce him in a debate and leave no doubt as to who was right and who was wrong
But I would not allow the contridiction that has taken place
Make up your mind and act accordingly for G-d sakes
Stev
When you say "narcissistc psychotic"
Which one are you refering to ?
If Bush talks to him, it may become apparent to the American public that Ahmadinejad doesn't actually have horns and a tail.
I agree that he isn't a good guy, but he's not evil personified either, and BushCo has made its living painting the world as black or white -- any shade of gray undermines his philosophy.
Anyway, avoiding conflict with Iran is not what Bush and friends want.

Would you want to debate a man that wants to commit genocide by wiping out Israel and already has a undeclared war on the US and the west.? Thought so.

He’s a head of state, not a terrorist. Bush shouldn’t debate him because it’s just a publicity stunt. If Ahmadinejad wanted to accomplish anything, he’d be proposing private talks. He’s not, so that’s what Bush should offer– man to man, one on one talks.

Poor decision to let this murderous terrorist set foot here. I have already lodged my complaints to my representatives and to the White House. The man is a criminal. My guess is that the POTUS does not want to completely alienate the country by stooping to debate a terrorist.

Why?
Because Bush is too smart for you and your buddy Ahmadinejad.
Obama Barack said he will, since they are both Extremist Muslims.
All Democrats should "bow down" to Ahmadinejad, like they do all of our Enemies, including the Terrorists.
You, Trout, are already "bowing down".
And I’ll bet you have a good reason to.
Has anyone noticed how many Democrats here, are WANTING TO BOW DOWN.
Evidently, that’s just typical for Democrats.

myself, i would love to see this happen, but then let them know that bush speaks only for himself and his dwindling list of followers!!!
that he is not the voice for how all the american people feel!!!
this is the way things are supposed to be done in the first place!!
edit: listen bush deserves no sympothy, he used his war march and drums and belittled everyone that did not agree with his policies by calling them traiters and unpatriotic cowards if you wasnt on his side!!!
and he should of tried debating people against going to war instead of lying and bullying his way in!!!
i swear some of you people, if charlie manson, as long as he was declared president and waved the flags and it was made all official you would stand behind him because of your blind foolish patriotic pride!!!
thats not what the forefathers were talking about!!!
then if they dont agree with us, then we blow them up and conquere them!!!

Ahmadinejad is allowed to come to the US because that’s where the UN building is in NYC. Nothing more, nothing less.
If you haven’t noticed by now, it’s a really common political move to offer to debate your enemies in their own countries – Ahmadinejad never expected Bush to agree, he just wants to make it seem like Bush is afraid to debate him. Which isn’t the case, Bush is just wisely avoiding giving Ahmadinejad free propaganda time to belittle the US government and policies while appearing strong to his domestic supporters for being so brave as to have an ‘open debate.’
If Bush offered to debate Ahmadinejad openly in Iran – do you think Ahmadinejad would accept it? Nope – not a chance. There’s a reason why a lot of countries like Iran don’t have free press/news. Not wanting your enemies free access time to belittle and criticize your own country goes in both directions.
To simplify it: the offer to ‘debate’ openly is showboating in this case and has nothing to do with open debate.
I wouldn’t bother to ‘debate’ a man that continuously calls for genocide and war while developing a nuclear weapons program to annhilate the Jews and all the enemies of Islam. Not too mention the crazy historical revisions he keeps making about the holocaust and such. I wouldn’t want to appear as an equal to such a despicable man either.
Enigma: No one is censoring anyone so stop with the bleeding heart liberal crap. The politicians can keep it in the UN just fine – there are cameras in that building too so anyone can watch it. Learn to recognize rhetoric for what it is and stop being such an easy pawn to statesmen.
It makes me angry sometimes how easy people let themselves fall for such shallow manipulation. Chavez recently offered the same ‘debate.’ When Chavez instead went before the UN – he simply took advantage of the world stage to make the same jokes and score the same political high-fives with other anti-US countries… so much for an actual debate right? And Chavez isn’t even half as wacked out as Ahmadinejad.

Of course, you’ll probably just ignore the challenge to debate something openly won’t you? ;D
Do you people hear yourselves? My God what has happened when not only the voice of Americans is silenced but now we also silence world leaders who want to debate openly for all the world to see? This is not the America I believe in and you should all be ashamed of yourselves.
Any president that won’t accept a challenge like that one obviously has something to hide and if he doesn’t he shouldn’t make himself look that way. What a tool.
Edit: AP… I am a conservative to the bone but I also like to tell it like it is. Deal with it.
