Why did it take us so long to realize the threat of Terrorism?

For the record, I wrote this paper on my own. It was an essay I wrote for Terrorism 442 in college...

you dont honastly expect people to read all that? but my answer to the first question is that terrorism is no more a problem today than it was in the clinton or first bush presidencys.

that fact is that bush screwed up and let the US get attacked and now he is just trying to scare us to stay in power and justify more wars.

clinton stoped about 8 large scale terror attacks in his administration bush only one out of 2.

please dont belive the fear mongoring, it just leads to hate and facism.

what shall i do for my gap year??!last minute decision, NO idea and i don’t want to do the typical thing. ?

after realising that the last 3 years have been all work and no play ive very recently decided i needed a break before uni. But ive got no idea what to do in it! ANy ideas greatly appreciated. Here's a few things that may help....
-i no most people volunteer abroad/go travelling etc but its not something that's especially appealed to me, esp. after just coming back from travelling round europe for a month. but im still open to suggestions, esp. if there not the usual 'build a well/school/mokey sanctuary' sort of thing.
-love drama and art
-gap year not intended to make me money for uni
-can't live at home for very much time at all- so need somewhere to live whether that be with an inhouse job like nannying or some form of really cheap shared accommodation (would never be able to afford flat on my own etc)
-dont have any relatives that live abroad
- would love to have evenings and weekends free (or similar) with my job to do stuff with family and friends, art, museums, music etc etc
-Have very little money right now, but am not a afraid of hard work!
-Would like to do a range of stuff in the year

I worked my gap year to gain knowledge in the field I was studying. Not only that, but it helped pay my way through college. I didn't stay at home, I had accommodation where I worked.

Ok..Here's the dealio.

It's September 2008. A 19 year old girl with a screw loose is on a website named BeNaughty.com (like Match.com for the sexual thinkers). 2 weeks after joining and after talking to several people and meeting one (i'll call him Mark). I arranged to meet another one (i'll call him X-boy) 9 years my senior (believe me that's the smallest gap though). Anyway, time rolled round soon enough. It cost me £70 return to just barely be with him from Monday through to Wednesday. I don't crave attention 24/7 but i highly doubt an X-Box does either and that got 10 hours and 55 minutes a day, his bed got 6 hours, and the remainder of the 5 minutes was eating and me. I paid £70 that i could barely afford to see him (he lives 47 miles away), and he couldn't avoid the X-box and PS3 for 3 days.

Believing it to be a likely one off, i didn't give it much thought at the time.

I met up with a friend (Gipsy) i'd had feelings for in the November, but i had a realisation halfway through his intentions that i didn't want to change our friendship as i knew exactly what he was like with women. But somehow i felt guilty toward X-boy
An offer from a previous lover came by the next time X-boy wanted my company again. It was only out of a slight fear of the unknown i jilted Mark one day in December and declined his company to visit X-boy instead. Which, Mark was helluva lot cheaper, but hey ho. I spent my £70 day watching television, oh except for 5 minutes.

January was special, a birthday was to be celebrated and being that i was by then classed as his girlfriend. So i went, card and present in hand overnight. Except i had something on my mind. I was 2 weeks late for my period, it was 6 weeks since my last 5 minutes with him. I was all panicky. It was clear to see in my face, even my family wanted to know what was up. I was so scared cuz if i was pregnant, how would i tell him? How would he take it? So many thoughts were racing through my head. Oh and this is the day he actually wants to spend more time with me than the X-box, TV or PS3. I had protection but the "to hell with it" came and he said the words that struck my panic right in it's chords "well lets just hope nothing happens". If i could've left there and then i would've. But 13 miles from civilisation and a taxi rank, i made myself stay overnight. Hiding the tears within me.

That was my turning point that i knew this wasn't right for me. But i couldn't tell him. I left silently. Luckily i found out i wasn't baking buns in my oven. But his words had still hurt.

A few months on and his thoughts are in the place that if he had his own place i'd have moved in with him already. I wouldn't have. No matter how desperate i am to leave home, i wouldn't move in with someone i've been dating for 5 months and only seen 3 times. Shows how much he knows me.

In the meantime i had also made an agreement to meet up with another lover (Red) at a gig later in the year. I faced my fear and met up with Mark again and went on my travels and met up with the one i shall call DC. Having officially cheated on him with Mark and DC and partially with Gipsy i knew i was the wrong one. But friends and family have informed and hinted that he's not treating me the way i should be treated. That the relationship was entirely 1-sided from the off.

I've come to the conclusion that the only we'll know whether our relationship is built to last is if we end it, and we somehow from that meet in better situations or work more productively toward the relationship's faults so that next time we both know where we stand.

Problem lies in that i have never dumped anyone before. I've never tried to amicably end a relationship. I want to tell him how i feel, but i'm scared of how he'll take it. And the worst thing is that i can't afford to visit him to explain this to him; so i must do it by email or IM.

What do you think?

Can anyone help me in how i should go about it?

oh my word, what a palava!! to be honest it sounds like you have a few people to dump!! seriously though, after only seeing him 4 or 5 times and the way he treated you when you were there, he deserves no more than a text or a phone call and a serious goodbye!! just do it, you will never see him again if he is so far away anyway. in the meantime, stop trying to find men twice your age on dating websites, enjoy your youth and wait till you find someone really special that deserves you!!!

BBC BREAKING NEWS (4) – AIR FRANCE PLANE MISSING / AVION MANQUANTES

One of the British victims of the Air France plane disaster was a champion performer who starred in Riverdance. Eithne Walls, from Ballygowan, Northern Ireland, was returning home from a holiday in Brazil with two friends when the A330 Airbus disappeared from radar screens. It was also revealed that an 11-year-old schoolboy Alexander Bjoroy, a pupil at from Clifton College preparatory school, was travelling back to Bristol following a half-term break in Brazil.

Pilots flying a commercial jet from Paris to Rio de Janeiro for Brazil's largest airline, TAM, said they saw what they thought was fire in the ocean along the route taken by the missing plane yesterday.
Brazilian Air Force spokesman Col Jorge Amaral said authorities were investigating reports. 'There is information that the pilot of a TAM aircraft saw several orange points on the ocean while flying over the region ... where the Air France plane disappeared,' Col Amaral said. 'After arriving in Brazil, the pilot found out about the disappearance (of the Air France plane) and said that he thought those points on the ocean were fire.'

Mr Coakley, a design engineer, had been working in Brazil and was originally meant to fly home on May 19th, and then 27th. He was only put on this flight at the last minute.
His business partner Ken Pearce said the previous flight which he had hoped to board was full. Mrs Coakley said she still thought of her husband as missing.

'He's not dead, he's missing. We have to hope that he will walk through the front door. I've been trying his phone and it's still ringing, so I have hope.'

She added: 'I keep leaving messages for him, if his mobile was under the water it wouldn't keep taking the messages.'
As well as the Britons and three Irish citizens there were 61 French people and 58 Brazilians on board, with at least 20 Germans and several Italians.

The spot where the jet crashed has since been pinpointed within a few dozen square nautical miles paving the way for a multi-million pound salvage operation.

A massive search operation involving planes, ships and U.S. spy satellites had found no trace of the Airbus A330-200.
Flight AF 447 was four hours into its journey when it left the limits of Brazilian radar coverage, 350 miles out into the Atlantic. It was flying normally at 35,000 feet and 522 mph.
About half an hour later, it flew into what meteorologists called 'a thunderous zone with strong turbulence'. Fourteen minutes later, it sent an automatic message reporting the failure of an electrical circuit and a loss of cabin pressure.
When the Airbus, still out of range of any land-based radar, failed to make its next scheduled position report, the search operation was launched.
Planes took off from Fernando de Noronha, a string of more than 20 islands about 220 miles off the coast of Brazil.
It came as French intelligence agents from the DGSE (Direction Générale de la Sécurité Extérieure) prepared to travel to Brazil to investigate a possible terrorist attack
Air France said today that the captain of the missing plane was 58 years-old and had worked for the airline since 1988. One of the co-pilots was 37 and had been with Air France since 1999. The other was 32 and had been with the airline since 2004.

Nobody has yet explained why pilots on the flight failed to make a Mayday Call something which would have taken a couple of seconds. Announcing the latest breakthrough in the enquiry, Air France director general Pierre-Henry Gourgeon said: The catastrophe which devastated us all happened half way between the Brazilian and African coasts and the area concerned has been circled.

The flight from Brazil to Paris is thought to have been hit by lightning from a tropical storm and suffered a catastrophic electrical failure. 'A succession of a dozen technical messages' showed that 'several electrical systems had broken down' which caused a 'totally unprecedented situation in the plane', said Pierre-Henry Gourgeon, chief executive of Air France .

If no survivors are found it will be the worst crash since 2001 and the biggest loss of life in Air France's 75-year history.
The plane had a 12-strong French crew, including three pilots led by a captain who had 11,000 hours flying experience, including 1,700 hours on the Airbus.
One of the Brazilians on board was Pedro Luis de Orleans e Braganca, a direct descendant of Dom Pedro II, the last emperor of Brazil, a spokesman for the royal family told Reuters.

Best travel Option to get from Toronto Ont. to Atlanta GA?

I actually live in a small city near Toronto (Kitchener to be exact) but i'm just mentioning Toronto since most people never heard of Kitchener.

In about... a week and 3 days if possible (if i can get the time off work) i want to go to Atlanta Georgia for a convention... Hey, i wanna see 2 certain actors there!!

i was wondering with such short time and notice, what would be the cheapest travel method? especially since it's during Labour weekend. I don't care if it takes a day's worth of travel, or a 2 hour flight. should i try calling the airport constantly to see if there's a last minute cancellation?? I'm just looking for a way to save money.

I really thought about helping you out here, just because it would be fun to write. Then I looked at your profile and see that:

1. You answer other people's questions so obviously without care and thought and apparently just for points so you can go ask more questions.

and

2. The people that are gracious enough to assist you or answer your questions most of the time don't even recieve the courtesy of you selecting the "best answer" but they are instead selected by voters.

So instead I decide that if you are not interested in doing the right, then why in the world should anyone be interested in helping you?

Are vacation packages to Mexico cheaper in the Summer months than during the Winter months?

I'm hoping to travel to Mexico for a vacation this Summer using a "Last Minute" idea on, Redtag.ca, for example.
I'm trying to get an idea on budget and was hoping to find out if people have noticed vacation packages cheaper in the Summer than in the Winter.
Please let me know!

if you want to go, book it now, if you go on a trip in early January it's the cheapest time of year, summer will be the most expensive.
it's based on demand- higher demand for a vacation in the summer= higher prices. the first week of January is the cheapest time in the year for flights, so I'd assume that it's the same for most methods of vacationing. i wouldn't wait for a 'Last minute" deal- often times you have to pay extra fees just because your booking last minute.
